Origin and history

La Maison Gorrevod is a medieval house located in the heart of Bourg-en-Bresse, in the department of Ain. Built in the 15th century, it embodies the typical civil architecture of Bresse, an area marked by its rural and urban heritage. Its exact address, 1 rue du Palais, places this monument in a historic district of the city, close to the local power centers.

Gorrevod House enjoys double protection as a historical monument. Since February 22, 1927, the entire house (except those already classified) has been registered, recognizing its heritage value. Later, on 17 May 1974, its facades and roofs overlooking the street were classified, highlighting their architectural importance and their role in the urban landscape of Bourg-en-Bresse. These successive protections reflect the evolution of the criteria for preserving the heritage in France.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a Historic Monument and specify its exact location, as well as the protected elements. The house, although little documented in its interior details or historical occupants, remains a tangible testimony to the urban history of Bourg-en-Bresse. Its architecture, characteristic of the 15th century, offers an overview of the construction techniques and lifestyle of the period in this region of the present-day Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
