Origin and history

The farm in Nordheim, classified as a historic monument since 2012, is an emblematic example of Alsatian rural architecture. Located on 11 rue de la Mairie, it is distinguished by its organization in U around a central courtyard, typical of mixed farms combining vines, polyculture and livestock. Its 19th-century painted panels and alcoves bear witness to a preserved craftsmanship, while its numerous inscriptions allow us to trace its evolution from the late 17th to the late 19th century.

The building, which was in operation until the 1920s, retained all its agricultural and equipment annexes, providing a complete overview of previous agricultural practices. Its double-fly staircase and large stub (main room) reflect the social and economic importance of these farms in the region. The location of Nordheim, at the gates of the Alsace wine route, also highlights its link with viticulture, a major activity of the Bas-Rhin.

Listed in the inventory of historical monuments by order of 12 November 2012, the farm is fully protected, including its outbuildings (cadastre AB 62). Its exceptional state of conservation makes it a rare testimony of traditional Alsatian agriculture, between medieval heritage and modern adaptations.
