Borne border (old) between Franche-Comté and Bugey, dated 1613 (Box E 70): classification by order of 12 January 1926
Origin and history
The border pillar of the Bouchoux is a historical monument dating from the 1st quarter of the 17th century, more precisely from 1613. It materializes the former border between Franche-Comté and Bugey, two territories then distinct. This stone, carved in pyramidal form, is erect vertically and bears witness to the political divisions of the time.
Classified as a Historic Monument by order of 12 January 1926, this pillar is protected for its heritage interest. It is located near the commune of Bouchoux (Jura), although its approximate GPS address is located near Belleydoux (Ain). Its location reflects the historical tensions between these regions, now integrated into Burgundy-Franche-Comté and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
The pillar is described as a flat, erect and carved stone, typical of the border markings of the modern era. Its classification specifically covers the element dated 1613, identified under Cadastre E 70. No information is available on any sponsors or artisans who have made this work.
