Heritage classified

The buildings and all constructions related to the hydraulic network of the Ceron Habitation, located on Parcel 121, shown in cadastre section C of the commune of Prêcher (972), with the exception of the reception buildings situated on Parcel C121 and the master house situated on Parcel C125: inscription by order of 29 June 2018

Origin and history

The Céron Habitation is a historic monument located in the Anse Ceron district of the Preacher in Martinique (972). Dating from the mid-17th century, it illustrates the architecture and agricultural infrastructure of the colonial era, thanks to its still partially preserved hydraulic network. Buildings and buildings related to this system, located on parcel 121 of the cadastre, were protected by a registration order in June 2018, with the exception of certain buildings such as the master house or the host buildings.

The location of the Cerone Habitation, although documented (address: 466 Anse Ceron, 97250 Le Preacher), remains approximate according to the available sources, with a cartographic accuracy considered "passable". This site reflects Martinique's economic history, marked by sugar houses and their spatial organization, where hydraulic networks played a central role in irrigation and production.

Registration for Historic Monuments in 2018 highlights the heritage value of the site, while excluding some modern or reconstructed elements. Available data (Monumentum, Merimée database) do not specify whether the site is open to the public, but its protected status makes it an important testimony of the island's agricultural and architectural past.
