The facades and the roof (case AE 114): classification by decree of 6 February 1981
Origin and history
The Muscade house is a former colonial plantation in Bouillante, on the island of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe. This historic site, typical of the Caribbean agricultural homes, bears witness to the colonial era and its plantation-based economy. The mansion, built in 1930, is an architectural example of this period, marked by a transition between traditional colonial structures and modern influences of the early twentieth century.
The mansion of the Muscade dwelling was classified as historical monuments by an order of 6 February 1981. This classification specifically concerns the facades and roof of the building, highlighting their heritage value. This monument illustrates the economic and social history of Guadeloupe, where plantations played a central role for centuries, while reflecting the architectural changes of the early twentieth century.
Located at 2055 Chemin Descoudes in Bouillante, the Muscade house is located in a geographical setting marked by its volcanic relief and tropical climate. This type of housing, formerly dedicated to agricultural production, is today a testimony of the colonial past of the island. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair, with GPS coordinates allowing the monument to be located in its immediate environment.
