Façades sur rue et la Roof (Box H 888p): inscription by order of 6 December 1963
Origin and history
The half-timbered house at 5 Rue des Armes in Sarlat-la-Canéda is an emblematic 15th century building. This monument, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 6 December 1963, illustrates the medieval civil architecture of the region. Its facades on street and roof are protected, highlighting its heritage importance.
Sarlat-la-Canéda, located in the Dordogne, was in the 15th century a dynamic city, marked by a rural and artisanal economy. The half-timbered houses, frequent in this region, served both as a dwelling and a place of activity for local merchants or artisans. Their wooden and torchi structure reflected the construction techniques of the time, adapted to the available resources.
The protection of this monument in 1963 is part of a desire to preserve the architectural heritage of New Aquitaine. The precise location of the house, confirmed by GPS coordinates and archives of the Merimée base, makes it a point of interest for visitors wishing to discover the urban history of Sarlat.
