Origin and history
The wheat hall of Thann is an emblematic 15th century building, built in 1519 by Rémy Faesch, whose tasker mark is still visible. Located at 24 rue Saint-Thiébaut, it was classified as a historic monument in 1920 after suffering damage during the First World War, including a bombardment in 1915. Its restoration, carried out between 1922 and 1925, preserved its characteristic architecture.
Today, the lobby houses the Thann Friends Museum, run by the local history society. This building, owned by the municipality, illustrates the importance of medieval halls in the economic and social life of the Alsatian cities. Its initial role as a place of trade for cereals reflects the agricultural and market activity of the region in the Middle Ages.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a Historical Monument and its precise location in the Upper Rhine. The hall is also associated with the Musées de France network, strengthening its heritage and cultural anchor in the Great East.
