Grain Hall (Box C 1189): entry by order of 5 December 1973

Origin and history

Mamers Grain Hall is a building built during the first quarter of the 19th century. Located in the municipality of Mamers, Sarthe ( Pays de la Loire region), it embodies an architectural heritage linked to local economic activities. This type of construction, typical of small provincial towns, served as a place of commerce and gathering for producers and residents.

Ranked among the Historical Monuments, the Grain Hall was listed by ministerial decree on 5 December 1973. Owned by the commune, it is today a testimony of urban planning and business practices of the early nineteenth century. The halls then played a central role in the economic and social life of the towns, facilitating the exchange of cereals and other foodstuffs between the surrounding countryside and the townspeople.

Available data indicate that the location of the hall at 28 Carnot Square is considered satisfactory (note 7/10). No additional information is provided on its current use, whether it be visits, room rental or other functions. The sources mention only its status as a protected monument and its belonging to the communal heritage.
