Origin and history

The lobby of Lacapelle-Livron is a typical 16th century public building, located in the centre of the eponymous village, in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region. Built of local stones, it is distinguished by its primitive structure, composed of chamfered angular pillars supporting sandstones and a lauze cover. This architectural system, comparable to that of the Beauregard Hall in the Lot, reflects the rural construction techniques of the time.

Classified as a historic monument by order of 29 October 1941, this hall served as a gathering place for the village community, as evidenced by its proven use in 1785. Its rectangular plan and its walls full at the back illustrate a functional design, adapted to the collective needs (markets, assemblies). The frame, composed of entrances, d'arbalétriers and cross chevrons, supports a lauze roof placed on a joint slate, characteristic of the vernacular constructions of the region.

The hall today belongs to the municipality of Lacapelle-Livron, whose Insee code (82082) links it to the former territory of Midi-Pyrénées, which has since been incorporated into Occitanie. Although its GPS location is approximate (accuracy noted 5/10), its official address (5027 B Village) and its protected status make it a remarkable architectural heritage. Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum bases, highlight its historical importance and documentary value for the study of medieval and modern halls.
