Origin and history

The Piney Hall is a building located in the municipality of Piney, in the Aube department, in the Grand Est region. This monument, which has been classified as historical monuments since 1972, once served as a central place for commercial and social activities in the region. Its architecture and historical role make it a remarkable local heritage.

The hall was the setting of the four annual fairs held in Piney, marking key dates of the local calendar: the Saint-Sébastien (20 January), the Saint-Jacques-et-Saint-Philippe (1 May), the Sainte-Madeleine (22 July) and the Saint-Remi (1 October). At these events, fees were doubled, emphasizing the economic importance of these gatherings to the community. These fairs reflected the social and commercial organization typical of the small rural towns of the time, where the halls played a central role in collective life.

Ranked as a historic monument by order of 4 October 1972, Piney Hall is now owned by the municipality. Its classification reflects its heritage value and the desire to preserve this type of construction, often associated with exchanges and public life in the villages and small towns of France. The building, located at 2bis Rue Louis Husson, remains a symbol of the local history and traditional architecture of the region.
