Origin and history
The halls of Laferté-sur-Aube are a public building built during the 2nd quarter of the 19th century. Located in the department of Haute-Marne, in the Grand Est region, they embody the utilitarian architecture of this period, dedicated to local trade. Their location, at the heart of the commune, reflects their central role in the economic and social life of the time.
Classified as a Historic Monument, the halls saw their facades and roofs protected by a registration order dated 29 October 1975. This status reflects their historic and architectural value. The identified contractor, Topin says Sylvestre, supervised their construction, although little additional information about his work or career is available from current sources.
Like many halls of that time, the building served as a gathering place for merchants and residents, facilitating trade in agricultural and handicraft products. In the rural context of the Haute-Marne in the 19th century, these spaces played a key role in structuring communities, providing both a practical and a social setting. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the economic dynamics and lifestyles of this period.
