Origin and history
Boulogne-sur-Gesse, built in 1859 or 1869 according to the sources, is an emblematic building in the city centre, on Place de la Mairie. It was designed by the architect Achille Ambialet, combining a traditional stone façade with a metallic structure for the market. This mixture of materials reflects the technical innovations of the time while respecting the local aesthetics.
The building brings together three essential functions: covered market, town hall and court, illustrating the administrative and social organization of small rural communes in the 19th century. In Comminges, an agricultural and commercial area, these halls served as a gathering place for economic exchanges and civic decisions. The Hall Mairie thus symbolizes the central role of these buildings in everyday life.
Classified as a Historic Monument by order of 11 October 2004, the Boulogne-sur-Gesse Hall of Mayory is now protected for its architecture and heritage importance. Its location in Haute-Garonne, in the former Midi-Pyrénées region (now Occitanie), and its state of conservation make it a rare testimony to the versatile constructions of the Second Empire. The sources also mention its registration at the Merimée base and its status as communal property.
