Origin and history

The Halle Saint-Pierre is a Parisian museum dedicated to naive art, raw art, singular art and art outsider. Set in an old Baltard-style hall, this place successively housed a market, a school, and then a municipal garage before being transformed into a cultural space. Its iconic architecture, typical of the 19th century halls, makes it a visual landmark at the foot of the Montmartre hill.

Since 1995, the Halle Saint-Pierre has organized three to four temporary exhibitions a year, exploring various themes such as unconsciousness, madness or myths. Although the building belongs to the City of Paris, its management is entrusted to an association created in 1985, which allows it independent and bold programming. The museum is distinguished by its dynamic approach, combining monographic, collective and transversal exhibitions.

Beyond the exhibitions, the Halle Saint-Pierre offers educational activities, a gallery dedicated to emerging artists, and a bookshop specializing in works on art beyond the norm. It also publishes catalogues in collaboration with houses like Gallimard, and organizes events such as film festivals, literary evenings or symposia. This hybrid place, both museum, cultural centre and research space, plays a key role in valuing contemporary marginal creations.

Collection

Le projet culturel de la Halle Saint-Pierre s'articule autour d'axes fondamentaux qui prennent en considération la spécificité historique, culturelle et sociale de l'art brut et de l'art singulier.
