Facades and roofs (Cad. AB 332): inscription by order of 29 October 1971

Origin and history

The seat of the Viscounty of Auge is a building built in the early seventeenth century, located in the city of Pont-l'Évêque, Normandy. This monument, now known as the Palace of Justice, embodies modern-day judicial architecture. It is distinguished by its facades and roofs, protected since 1971 as a Historical Monument, reflecting the administrative and symbolic importance of the Auge vicomte under the Old Regime.

The building occupies a central place in local history, as evidenced by its location in the Palace of Justice square. Originally, it housed the judicial institutions of Viscount, a Norman historical territory. Its inscription in historical monuments, by decree of 29 October 1971, specifically concerns its facades and roofs, highlighting their heritage value. Today, the building remains a marker of the past judiciary and the territorial organization of Normandy.

Available sources, such as Monumentum and Wikipedia, specify that the headquarters of the Viscount is now owned by the Calvados department. Although its current use is not detailed, its architecture and history make it a key part of the Pont-l'Evêque heritage. The location, confirmed by the Mérimée bases and GPS coordinates, places the monument in the heart of the city, between the Place du Palais-de-Justice and Rue Eugène Pian.
