Origin and history
The house located at 12 rue des Consuls in Sarlat-la-Canéda is a 17th century building, representative of the civil architecture of this period. It consists of seven spans spread over two floors, topped by a large roof that grabs in the pavilion at the ends. Part of the blankets, initially in lauze, was replaced by flat tiles, reflecting later modifications.
The entrance door, adorned with a rounded opening, is framed by two studstone pilasters. The latter bear a triangular pediment whose tympanum bears an erased shield, identified as the arms of the Labrousse family. The inner courtyard leads to a spiral staircase housed in a square turret, illuminated by four windows with boss frames. This staircase, accessible from the porch, illustrates the ingenuity of the buildings of the era.
Classified as a Historic Monument, this house saw its facades and roofs protected by a decree of 6 June 1962. This status underlines its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its testimony on the urban history of Sarlat-la-Canéda. Architectural details, such as the bosses and the shield, recall the prestige of the local bourgeois families, including the Labrousses, which marked the history of the city.
