Façade sur rue and corresponding roof slope (cad. A 335): by order of 22 May 1956

Origin and history

The house at 4 Rue du Lycée in Quimper is a 16th century historical monument. It is distinguished by its large stone façade, typical of the architecture of this period. Originally, it was a pre-bendal house, i.e. linked to the distribution of ecclesiastical income, suggesting a link with local clergy or religious institutions.

The building was partially protected by an order of 22 May 1956, specifically covering its street façade and the corresponding roof slope. This inscription in the Historic Monuments bears witness to its heritage importance. The precise location, although noted as "passable" (level 5/10), remains confirmed by the GPS coordinates and the official address recorded in the Merimée database.

Quimper, the Breton town of Finistère, was in the 16th century a dynamic religious and economic centre. Prebendal houses, like this one, often played a role in the administration of ecclesiastical property. Their architecture reflected the social status of their occupants, usually clergy or local notables. These buildings helped to structure the urban fabric and to affirm the presence of the Church in the city.
