Origin and history

The house located in 42 Place du Marché-Vert in Sélestat is a historic monument registered since 1937. This building, located in the department of Bas-Rhin in the Grand East region, is part of the architectural heritage of the city. Its exact address, according to the Merimée base, is confirmed as 42 Place du Marché-Vert, although approximate GPS coordinates suggest a nearby location, at 43 Rue des Chevaliers.

Seletat, an Alsatian city marked by its medieval and reborn history, houses several listed monuments. Old houses, like this one, often bear witness to the economic and artisanal dynamism of the region throughout the centuries. Their preservation makes it possible to understand the urban evolution and lifestyles of the inhabitants, in a context where Alsace has long been an area of cultural confluence between French and Germanic influences.
