Origin and history

La Maison du XVe siècle, located in Saint-Rémy in the Deux-Sèvres department (79), is an emblematic monument of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Built in the 15th century, it is a typical example of late medieval civil architecture. Its inscription as Historic Monument by decree of 6 November 1929 specifically protects its facade, staircase and two of its chimneys, remarkable elements of its heritage.

Saint-Rémy, like many localities in the Poitou-Charentes region, was in the 15th century a rural area marked by an agricultural and artisanal economy. The houses of that time often served as housing for wealthy families or local notables, while sometimes sheltering commercial or administrative activities. This type of building reflects the social and economic organization of the time, where the domestic architecture blended with the practical needs of everyday life.

The protection of this monument reflects its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this architectural heritage for future generations.
