Facade and roof: inscription by decree of 5 November 1926

Origin and history

The house located at 27 rue Beaudrairie in Vitré, Ille-et-Vilaine, is a remarkable example of Breton medieval civil architecture. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it is characterized by its apparent wood strip, typical of the urban constructions of this period, as well as by columns decorated with scale motifs, bearing a refined craftsmanship. These decorative elements, combined with the wooden structure, illustrate the influence of late Gothic styles in the region.

Classified as a Historic Monument by order of 5 November 1926, this house enjoys protection specifically relating to its façade and roof. This classification reflects its heritage importance, both for its state of conservation and for its representativeness of bourgeois or artisanal houses from Vitré to the Renaissance. The precise location, confirmed by the Merimée bases and the Insee code of the municipality (35360), places the building in the historic center of the city, an area marked by a rich medieval past.

Available data, from sources such as Monumentum, highlight the architectural interest of this monument, while noting a geographical accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10). Although little practical information on its current vocation (visit, accommodation) is provided, its registration as a Historical Monument makes it a privileged witness to the urban history of Vitré and the interior Brittany.
