Origin and history
The house located at 15 rue des Carmelites in Blois dates from the 17th century and presents a remarkable portal, vestige of an old mansion. This portal, consisting of two studded wooden vantals and a hard stone frame, is surmounted by a curved hanger framed with pilasters and a simple cornice. Stone terminals, rare in shape, are arranged on both sides of the gate, as well as inside the porch. This portal could come from the old Carmelite house, which became well national during the French Revolution.
The building is associated with local administrative history, having belonged to a subdelegate of the Intent, a key function of the Old Regime. The portal, the only protected element inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 25 November 1946, illustrates the civil architecture of Blois in the 17th century. The exact location, although documented, remains approximate according to available sources, with an accuracy considered fair.
The cochère door, of curved shape, and its immediate environment (boundary and porch) constitute a coherent architectural set, typical of the mansions of the time. The lack of details on the current use of the building (visit, rental, etc.) limits the knowledge of its contemporary role, but its inscription demonstrates its recognized heritage value.
