Origin and history

The house located at 20 rue Charles-Sanglier in Orléans is a Historic Monument whose facades come from two houses originally located on rue Pierre-Percée (numbers 4 and 6). These architectural elements were protected by an official classification in 1889, highlighting their heritage value from that time on. The current address corresponds to a subsequent relocation, reflecting the urban transformations of the city.

Orléans, the capital of the Loiret department in the Centre-Val de Loire region, experienced a period of urban restructuring during the 19th century, marked by the modernization of the roads and the selective preservation of its old building. The houses of this time, often made of stone or wood, illustrated the bourgeois or local artisanal way of life. Their partial preservation, as in this case, makes it possible today to study the constructive techniques and aesthetic tastes of the era, while posing the question of in situ preservation versus the displacement of heritage elements.
