Origin and history

The house at 7 rue Damiette in Rouen is a 16th century building. This monument, inscribed in the inventory of Historic Monuments, is distinguished by its facade on street and roof side, protected by ministerial decree of 7 January 1958. These architectural elements reflect the style of the period, typical of the Renaissance urban buildings in Normandy.

Rouen, the major city of the region, was in the 16th century a dynamic economic and cultural centre, marked by river trade and handicrafts. The houses of this period, like this one, often served as housing for local merchants or notables.
