Origin and history

The House of Brazil is one of the 23 national houses of the International University City of Paris, dedicated to welcoming Brazilian students, researchers and artists. Founded in 1959, it houses PhD students, post-doctoral fellows and training professionals, while serving as a temporary residence for prominent Brazilian personalities such as Joaquim Pedro de Andrade or Sebastião Salgado. Its role goes beyond the academic framework to enroll in a Franco-Brazilian cultural exchange.

Designed by architects Lucio Costa and Le Corbusier, the House of Brazil is a masterpiece of modern architecture, listed at the Historic Monuments in 1985. The building, restored in 2000, attracts hundreds of visitors each year, passionate about its innovative design and cultural heritage. It embodies a synthesis of functionality (housing, theatre, library) and aesthetic audacity, reflecting the modernist ideals of its creators.

Beyond its 150 rooms, the House of Brazil houses a rich cultural infrastructure: a theatre, a hall of exhibitions, a library of 12,500 books (Portuguese and French), a video library of 1,500 titles, and a classroom. These spaces make it a dynamic hub for the dissemination of Brazilian culture in France, open to residents as well as the outside public.
