Origin and history

The Hermitage Sainte-Cécile de Valay is a religious monument located in the department of Haute-Saône, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Attested from the end of the 12th century, it took the form of a chapel probably built at the end of the 13th century. This site, originally dedicated to eremitic life, underwent major modifications in the 18th century before being transformed into a farm in the 19th century. Its abandonment in the twentieth century led to its progressive ruin, leaving only classified remains.

Hermitage was registered as a historical monument by order of 28 July 1994, thereby recognizing its heritage value. The ruins, located on the land register ZN 31, now belong to the town of Valay.
