Façade and Roof (CITY SECTION 153): inscription by order of 12 October 1948
Origin and history
The log house at the 80 Grande-Rue in Quillebeuf-sur-Seine is a 16th century historical monument. This type of construction, characteristic of Renaissance civil architecture, bears witness to the wooden and torchi construction techniques then widespread in Norman cities. The building has been included in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 1948, with specific protection on its façade and roof.
Quillebeuf-sur-Seine, located in the department of Eure in Normandy, was at this time a dynamic village, marked by port and commercial activities linked to the Seine. Wood-paned houses served both as a dwelling and a place of activity for local artisans or merchants. Their wooden structure allowed rapid and modular construction, adapted to the needs of a growing population.
The inscription of this house by order of 12 October 1948 underlines its heritage importance. The protected elements, i.e. the facade and roof, reflect the criteria for preserving old civilian buildings, often threatened by urban transformation. The approximate location, noted as 'passable' in the sources, indicates a partial knowledge of its exact location, despite its official address recorded in the Merimée database.
