Origin and history
The Rolland Hotel, located in Rabastens, Occitanie, is a historical monument dating back to the 15th century. Originally, it was a crenellated fort with a tower, typical of the urban defensive buildings of the medieval era. This building was enlarged in 1575, then in the 17th and 18th centuries, reflecting successive adaptations to the needs and tastes of noble owners.
In the 19th century, architect Louis Dutour undertook a complete restoration of the house and redecorated it in a neo-Gothic style, then in vogue. This transformation marked an aesthetic rupture with previous periods, while integrating elements inherited from previous centuries. The outbuildings and the garden, contemporaries of this time, complete the whole, offering a witness of the evolution of aristocratic lifestyles.
The Hotel de Rolland is distinguished by its ability to illustrate, through its various phases of construction, the architectural history of a noble building in urban areas, from the Middle Ages to the modern era. Its registration as a Historic Monument in 2007 highlights its heritage value, especially for its facades, roofs, stables and main house bodies, which are fully protected.
