Facades and roofs of the building; staircase with the cage and its decor (cad. G 458): registration by order of 19 January 1999
Origin and history
The Hotel de Riez is a building located in the ancient city, dating from the first half of the seventeenth century. It consists of two housing bodies framed by a courtyard and a central stairwell. The staircase, open to loggias, is richly decorated with hanging keys, caps and consoles adorned with masks, while the gypserie decor, a mannerist inspiration, reflects the artistic style of the era. The main façade features a portal carved of masks, foliage and fruit, highlighting its monumental character.
Ranked a Historic Monument, this hotel illustrates 17th century Provencal civil architecture. The facades, roofs and staircase with its decor were protected by decree of 19 January 1999. The building, located in Place Saint-Antoine, bears witness to urban planning and local crafts, with a location deemed satisfactory (note 7/10).
The protected elements include facades, roofs, as well as the staircase and its cage, whose architectural details (gypseries, masks, loggias) are characteristic of the urban residences of this period. No information is available about its current use (visit, rental, accommodation), but its registration as a Historical Monuments makes it a preserved heritage of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
