Origin and history
Hotel André Desilles, located in Saint-Malo, is a tall granite house built in the seventeenth century. It was part of the city's early enclosure and has a paved courtyard. Inside, there is a staircase and a living room adorned with a monumental golden wooden fireplace, Louis XIII style, as well as an elevated room that seems to have served as a theatre. This hotel is the home of André Desilles, lieutenant in the regiment of King Infanterie.
In the courtyard of the hotel is a well from the former Hôtel-Dieu, which was raised in 1988 in front of the facade. This well rests on a square, moulure base, topped by four doric columns supporting a wrought iron crown. The facades of the house, originally located 9 rue de l'Epine and 9 rue de la Fosse, were reconstructed identically on the west side of the hotel.
Several elements of the hotel are protected: the well (registered in 1927), the rebuilt facades (registered in 1946), and the facades and roofs (classified in 1946). The building today belongs to the commune of Saint-Malo.
