Façades on street, roof and staircase: inscription by decree of 13 June 1946
Origin and history
The Hotel Balzagette du Charneve is a historic monument located in Bourg-Saint-Andéol, in the department of Ardèche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the 17th century, this mansion is distinguished by its typical architecture of this period, with street facades, roofs and a remarkable staircase, protected by an inscription order in 1946. These elements reflect the style and techniques of construction in vogue at that time, as well as the social status of its original owners.
In the 17th century, Bourg-Saint-Andéol, like many cities in the region, was marked by a hierarchical social organization, where buildings such as the Hôtel Balzagette du Charneve often served as residences for wealthy or influential families. These private hotels played a role in local life, both economically and socially, sometimes hosting activities related to trade, administration or representation of power. Their preservation today offers a valuable testimony to the urban and architectural history of the region.
