Origin and history

Hotel Blancher is a historic monument located in Saumur, in the department of Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built in the 4th quarter of the 18th century, this mansion illustrates the civil architectural style of this period, marked by a search for elegance and symmetry.

The building was designed by architect Louis Drapeau for Sieur Blancler, a notable local, before 1786. This project reflects the importance of private sponsors in the planning of French cities at the end of the Ancien Régime, where private hotels served both as residence and as a symbol of social status.

The facades and roofs of the Hotel Blancher, as well as its interior staircase and ramp, were registered as Historic Monuments by order of 1 October 1963. This protection highlights the heritage value of the building, particularly for its 18th-century decorative and structural features.
