Origin and history
Hotel Boudon, also known as Hotel Meynier de Salinelles, is an emblematic civil building of the city of Nîmes, located in the Gard department, in the Occitan region. Built in the 18th century, it is distinguished by its refined architecture, with a unified facade and an interior courtyard. The building consists of two autonomous buildings, each with an entrance and a staircase of honour dating from this period.
Acquired in 1736 by merchant Laurens Boudon, the hotel was profoundly remodelled between 1760 and 1770. He changed hands several times over the centuries: bought in 1838 by the family Meynier de Salinelles, then in 1940 by the bank Arnaud-Gaidan, and finally in 1980 by the city of Nîmes. In 2020, it was acquired by the real estate group "François 1er", which undertook a complete restoration from 2021 under the supervision of the Bâtiments de France.
The interior of the hotel features remarkable architectural elements, such as a large oval vestibule decorated with niches, a hanging staircase with a wrought iron ramp, and a living room decorated with a faience fireplace and polychrome marbles. After its restoration, the hotel should accommodate private accommodation as well as a multidisciplinary cultural space open to the public.
Ranked a historic monument in 2004, Hotel Boudon is a testament to 18th century civil architecture. Its rehabilitation, scheduled to be completed in 2023, aims to preserve this heritage while offering it a new cultural and residential vocation.
