Origin and history
The Bourdeau de Lajudie hotel, located in Limoges in Haute-Vienne, is a private hotel whose origins date back to at least 1467, the date of a transaction mentioning the house. From that time there remained three superimposed cellars, one of which descended to a stream. These remains bear witness to the ancient medieval structure, partially preserved despite subsequent transformations.
In the 18th century, in 1775, an order for alignment imposed a renovation of the hotel and its façade on the Consulate Street. The architect Joseph Brousseau was in charge of these works, which included the creation of full arches hanger on the ground floor and high windows with balconys in ironwork for the noble floor. A niche housing a statue of the Virgin, already mentioned in the 16th century, marks the corner of the two adjacent streets.
The facades and roofs on the street were listed as historical monuments by order of 15 June 1977, thus recognizing the heritage value of this building. The hotel illustrates the architectural evolutions between the Middle Ages and the modern era, with Gothic, Renaissance and classical elements coexisting in its current structure.
