Origin and history
The Chambon Hotel of the Tower in Uzès is the result of the meeting of three distinct plots between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Its unified facade hides a complex architectural history, marked by successive transformations. The most emblematic element, a large central vacuum staircase with four cores decorated with arches and crawling balustrades, could date back to the 1660s. However, this type of structure remained common in Uzès until the early 18th century, reflecting local stylistic developments.
Inside, painted beam ceilings testify to the decorative techniques of the time. The living room on the ground floor houses a decoration of Rocaille style gypseries, made around 1750, illustrating the influence of the artistic currents of the mid-18th century. These ornamental elements, combined with the architectural structure, underline the prestige of this private hotel, typical of the aristocracy or the wealthy bourgeoisie of Uzes.
The building was listed in the Historic Monuments Inventory by order of 25 April 2007, thereby recognizing its heritage value. His official address, 18 rue du Docteur-Jean-Blanchard, and his code Insee (30344) place him precisely in the department of Gard, in the Occitanie region. The GPS location confirms its location in the historic centre of Uzès, a city marked by a rich architectural past.
