Origin and history

The Gonthier d'Auvillars Hotel, also known as the Gaulin Hotel, is a private hotel located at 11 rue Pasteur, in the preserved area of Dijon. Built in the 18th century, it belonged to the Gonthier d'Auvillars family, who also owned another hotel on the same plot at 18-20 rue du Petit Potet. This second, older building bears witness to the importance of this family in the architectural heritage of Dijon.

The hotel's monumental gate, as well as its vantals, were inscribed in historical monuments by order of 24 April 1929. This architectural element is the only part of the building to receive official protection, highlighting its heritage interest. The hotel illustrates the style of 18th-century aristocratic houses in Dijon, a period marked by urban beautification and the emergence of refined architecture.

The building is referenced in the Mérimée base under the exact address of 11 rue Pasteur, in the Côte-d'Or department (code Insee 21231). Although its GPS location is approximate, there remains a notable example of the Dijon heritage, integrated into a preserved area that preserves the historic character of the city.
