Origin and history
Hotel Couturer is a private hotel located in the centre of Poitiers, in the department of Vienna, in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries, it illustrates the civil architecture of this period, marked by the emergence of urban residences intended for the aristocracy or the affluent bourgeoisie. Its main staircase, dated from the 17th century, is a remarkable architectural element, witness to the artisanal know-how of the period.
The hotel was partially protected as historical monuments: the whole building, with the exception of the classified part, was registered by order of 31 December 1985. As for the main staircase, it received a specific classification on 24 April 1990, highlighting its exceptional heritage value. These protective measures reflect the desire to preserve an architectural heritage representative of Poitiers' urban history.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, indicate that the Couturer Hotel is located at 17 rue Saint-Germain, although variations in address (such as 10 rue Saint-Germain) are mentioned according to the references. This geographical impreciseness, noted as "passable" in the Merimée base, does not, however, call into question its importance in the historical landscape of the city. However, no information is provided on its current use, whether it be visits, rentals or accommodation.
