Origin and history

The Hotel de Bellecyse is a historic monument located in Saint-Brieuc, in the Côtes-d This granite building is remarkable for its architecture, whose plans are attributed to the architect Soufflot, known for his classical achievements. The execution of the works would have been supervised by a briochin bishop, who planned to install the bishopric there, although this project did not finally materialize. The interior houses a stone staircase with a wrought iron ramp, typical of the style of the era.

Listed Historic Monument by decree of 23 November 1970, the Hotel de Bellecyse is today the property of the commune of Saint-Brieuc. Its location, at 18 rue de la Préfecture or near the Place des Droits de l'Homme, makes it a central element of the Briochin urban heritage. Although the information on its current use (visits, rental, accommodation) is not specified, its conservation status and location are considered satisfactory, with a geographical accuracy estimated at 8/10.

Available sources, including Monumentum and Merimée data, highlight its architectural and historical importance. The building illustrates the role of religious and civil buildings in 18th century Brittany, where granite was widely used for sustainable construction. Its ranking reflects the desire to preserve this heritage, linked to both local ecclesiastical history and the influence of national architects such as Soufflot.
