Origin and history
The Hotel de Belot, also known as Hotel Belot de la Bussière, is a private hotel located at 10 rue des Papegaults, in the city centre of Blois. Built in the last quarter of the 15th century, it coincides with the arrival of Louis XII and his court in 1498. Its location, on the hillside of the right bank of the Loire, makes it an important part of the historical district of Puits-Châtel, close to Saint-Louis Cathedral.
In the 16th century, the hotel was acquired by Belot de la Bussière, a bishop of Blois under Henry III, known for overseeing the renovation of the town hall. The building features a variety of architectural elements: a Gothic decoration on the eastern facades (15th century), a central staircase and superimposed loggias (16th century), as well as 18th century woodwork and fireplaces. These changes reflect stylistic changes and changes in ownership.
As a historic monument since 1889, the Belot hotel is the first private hotel in Blois to benefit from this protection. Private property, it preserves traces of its different periods, such as closing the loggias in the 19th century or adding a portal. Its architecture thus blends Gothic, Renaissance and later modifications, testifying to its rich and complex history.
