Origin and history

The Hôtel de Boisgelin is an Aix hotel built around 1650 for the Le Blanc de Mondespin family, several members of which sat in the Parliament of Provence. Its architecture, supervised by Pierre Pavillon (architect) and Rambot (master d'oeuvre), combines classicism of the Great Century with baroque elements: superimposed orders, doric friezes, and a walnut door adorned with a badge with the lion's muffle. The property later passed to Laurens, Marquis de Brue, and then to the Boisgelin family by alliance.

The building, organized in two bodies at right angle between courtyard and garden, opens on the Place des Quatre Dauphins. His forebody, reworked in the 19th century, was partially acquired in the 1970s by actor Alain Delon, who lived there with Mireille Darc until 1975. The hotel, classified as a historic monument in 1964, protects its courtyard, fountain and walls delineating the garden.

The hotel of Boisgelin is an emblematic place of Aix's heritage and embodies the influence of Provençal parliamentary elites under Louis XIV. Its history crossed with the cinema (tourning of Borsalino in the region) and its proximity to the Four Dauphins fountain make it a historical and cultural site. Architectural references, such as the works of Pierre Pavillon, highlight his role in the urban evolution of Aix-en-Provence in the 17th century.

Historical sources cite specialized works, including those by André Bouyala d'Arnaud (1964) and Jean Boyer (1985), which document its importance in the local architectural landscape. The 1964 classification covers the entire hotel, as well as the grounds of the courtyard and garden, demonstrating its exceptional heritage value.
