Origin and history

The Bouilhac hotel is a 17th-century mansion in Montignac-Lascaux, Dordogne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Located in Black Perigord, on the right bank of the Vézère, it is distinguished by its U-shaped architecture, with a central body framed with two asymmetric wings. The property, now private, was classified as a historic monument in 2008, including its courtyard and fence.

The building underwent a major transformation in 2015, when it was bought by a couple of restaurateurs. After renovation work, it reopened in 2017 in the form of a 4-star hotel-restaurant, comprising ten rooms, including five luxury suites. This reconversion is part of a dynamic tourism context, marked by the opening of the National Parietal Centre Lascaux 4 nearby.

The architecture of the Bouilhac hotel is characterized by three floors, including a mansard level, and a terrace with balustrade on the first floor. Inside, several rooms preserve 18th and 19th century decors, including chimney tumbles decorated with floral motifs and rural scenes. The stone staircase, ramp-on-rail type, occupies a central place in the distribution of spaces.

The rectangular courtyard, closed by a grid on a wall, reflects the spatial organization typical of the mansions of that time. The main building, facing south-east, overlooks the Vézère, offering views of the river about 60 meters away. This monument thus illustrates the evolution of aristocratic residences in Périgord, between architectural heritage and contemporary adaptation.
