Origin and history

The Hotel de Camondo is a private hotel built in 1874 for the financier Abraham Behor de Camondo (1829-1889) by architect Denis-Louis Destors. Located at 61 rue de Monceau in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, it embodies the fascist of the financial bourgeoisie of the 19th century. The building, of eclectic style, reflects the architectural tastes of the era, mixing classical influences and modernity.

In 1893, the hotel was sold by Isaac from Camondo to Gaston Menier (1855-1934), heir to the Menier chocolate dynasty. The latter, along with his son Gaston Georges Menier (1880-1933), resided there until Simonne Menier's widow left in 1933 to settle in the 7th arrondissement. The hotel escaped from demolition in 1972, when it belonged to an insurance company threatened by a real estate project.

Ranked a historic monument on October 17, 1977 for its facades and roofs, the Hotel de Camondo is today a preserved testimony of Parisian economic and architectural history. It has also been home to the Paris headquarters of Morgan Stanley Bank since a date not specified in the sources. Its ranking has preserved an emblematic heritage of Haussmann's Paris and the golden age of private hotels.

The architect Denis-Louis Destors, master of the original project, marked the building of his style, while the Menier, a famous industrial family, added additional buildings. The exact location, confirmed by the Merimée and Monumentum bases, places the hotel in the heart of a growing area, symbol of the luxury and economic power of the time.
