Origin and history

The Chalon-Luxembourg hotel was built from 1623 on a narrow plot of land in the Marais, originally owned by Antoine Le Fèvre de la Borderie, Ambassador of Henri IV. The building, commissioned by William Perrochel, the king's master hotel, adopts a Louis XIII style in pink brick and white stone, with two adjoining buildings and attices. The architect remains unknown. The land, once occupied by a palm game, was transformed into a modest but elegant hotel, rented to Rouennais traders before its acquisition in 1658.

Marie Amelot de Béon-Luxembourg, new owner in 1658, enlarged the hotel by adding two side windows on the garden side and a sumptuous gate on the street, surrounded by communes. It also has a small backyard. When he died in 1702, at 97, the hotel remained in his family until 1762, before changing hands several times: bought by a lady Lelong, then by Roger de Gadencourt in 1770, and finally by Claude Pollissard, the king's wine merchant, in 1779.

In the 20th century, the hotel, which had become obsolete, was bought by the painter Charles Huard, then stripped of its woodwork before being saved by architect Jean Walter. The latter partially restored it and donated it to the City of Paris in 1948. Ranked a historic monument in 1977, it is a brief home of the Old Paris Commission. Despite work in 1990, his condition deteriorated again, leading to rescue projects, including an emhytheotic lease for the Holocaust Memorial.

Future

The private hotel is squatted, and finally, an emhytheotic lease of 99 years is planned for the Shoah Memorial, by Eric de Rothschild, which intends to install its administrative services there.
