Origin and history
The Hôtel de Chaumont, located in Niort, is a historical monument built in the fourth quarter of the 15th century. This former mansion, now partially in ruins, is distinguished by its remains in stone and stone. It bears witness to the civil architecture of the late Middle Ages in the region.
In the middle of the 16th century, the hotel became the seat of a royal palace and concierge, functions which it retained until the mid-19th century. This change in usage reflects its administrative and judicial importance in the city. The building is also associated with the birth of Françoise d.
Today, only parts of the walls remain of this historic complex. The protected remains, inscribed by order of 26 October 1998, recall its prestigious past. The exact address, 5 rue du Pont in Niort, allows to locate this heritage, although its conservation is partial. The accuracy of its location is estimated as satisfactory a priori (note 6/10).
