Origin and history

Hotel de Crémoux is a private hotel located in the historic centre of Périgueux, Dordogne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Built in the 15th century, it is distinguished by its richly decorated portal, which has been included in the inventory of historical monuments since 1936. This building, located on 3 and 5 rue de la Constitution, at the corner of rue des Francs-Maçons, is a private property that was restored in the 1980s. Its name comes from the family of Cremoux, who owned it from the 17th to the 19th century, and whose member was mayor of Périgueux.

The interior of the hotel, although not accessible to the public, houses remarkable elements such as a 13th century guard room, a pillar staircase topped by a small bedroom, and another 13th century room accessible by a 15th century door. The portal, dated the 15th century, is the only element protected by historical monuments since December 12, 1936. The hotel is located in the protected area of Périgueux, on the right bank of the Isle, and adjacent to the Hotel Gamenson.

The construction of the hotel dates back to the 15th century, although parts, such as the guard room, could date back to the 13th century. The whole has been enlarged or altered over the centuries, notably by the agglomeration of the neighbouring house. After belonging to the Cremoux family until the 19th century, the hotel was sold by their descendants in 1979. Today, there remains private property, bearing witness to the medieval civil architecture and the urban history of Périgueux.
