Origin and history
The Hotel de Froissard, also known as the Balay Hotel, is a private hotel built in the early seventeenth century during the Second Renaissance. Located at 7 rue du Mont-Roland in the historic centre of Dole (Jura), it embodies the aristocratic architecture of this period, with a symmetrical facade of nearly 20 meters high, rhythmic by regular bays and a central gate. Three monumental skylights adorn its roof, while a porch leads to a horseshoe staircase, organized around a courtyard with a gallery-loggia and outbuildings.
The hotel was built around 1594 according to Jean Boyvin's plans for Froissard's family, before passing into the hands of Balay's family, whose name he temporarily bore. Today it is still owned by the Frossard family. Several remarkable elements have been protected since 19 March 1982: the facades and roofs (on street and courtyard), the two-volved staircase, and a monumental fireplace on the ground floor, classified as historical monuments. The boudoir on the first floor, with its decoration and fireplaces of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, is inscribed on the same date.
