Origin and history
Hotel de Garsaulan is a mansion built in the 18th century in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, on the Malaquais dock. This monument illustrates the civil architecture of this period, marked by the elegance of the facades and the artisanal work of decorative elements, such as the wrought iron staircase ramp, typical of the know-how of the period.
Ranked as a Historic Monument, the hotel enjoys special protections: its façade on the dock, door vants, roofs and stairwells were classified by decree of 21 July 1949, while the wrought iron staircase ramp had already been inscribed as early as 29 March 1926. These measures underline the heritage value of the building, now owned by the municipality of Paris.
The location of the Hôtel de Garsaulan, at the 5 Malaquais wharf, makes it a witness of the 18th century Parisian urbanism, a time when private hotels bordering the Seine reflected the social prestige of their owners. Although the sources do not specify its current use, its status as a Historic Monument and its location in a central area make it a notable part of the Parisian heritage.
