Origin and history
The Hotel de Gissey, also known as Hotel Millotet, is a private hotel located at 17 rue Piron, in the city centre of Dijon, in Côte-d'Or. Built around 1650, it embodies 17th-century bourgeois civil architecture, with elements typical of that period, such as an entrance gate and facades on courtyard. This monument is emblematic of the Dijon heritage, marked by the influence of local elites, especially legal and political.
The hotel was built for Marc-Antoine Millotet, attorney general in the Parliament of Dijon, who also held the post of mayor of the city between 1650 and 1651. The property originally consisted of a palm game, a detail revealing the leisure and social status of its owner. This place thus reflects the way of life of Dijon notables under the Old Regime, where public office and urban residences were closely linked.
Ranked among the historical monuments since 13 March 1964, the hotel of Gissey is protected for its major architectural elements: the entrance gate with its vantals, the facades on the courtyard and the corresponding roofs. This inscription highlights its heritage importance and its role in the urban history of Dijon, while preserving the material traces of its prestigious past.
