Origin and history

The Hotel de Jassaud is a private hotel built in 1642 on the island of Saint-Louis, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. It consists of two parts: the Grand Hotel at the 19 quai de Bourbon and the Petit Hotel at 26 rue Le Regrattier. This monument illustrates the classic architecture of the seventeenth century, with a remarkable facade and an interior garden, reflecting the prestige of its sponsor, Nicolas de Jassaud, master of requests.

Between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the hotel houses major cultural figures. The sculptor Camille Claudel installed her workshop there from 1899 to 1913, a key period of her career. The writer Maurice Maindron, the engraver Félix Buhot, or the poet Édouard Guerber also lives there, making this place a Parisian intellectual and artistic home.

Partially ranked in 1993 (waiting on dock and roof) and inscribed in historical monuments since 1988, the Hotel de Jassaud embodies both the architectural heritage of Saint Louis Island and a page of French cultural history. Its dual status — aristocratic residence and then place of creation — makes it a privileged witness to the social and artistic evolution of Paris.
