Origin and history

The Hôtel de La Feuillade was mentioned in 1680 on the map of Caron, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. On that date, it belonged to Louis d'Aubusson, Marquis de La Feuillade, before being acquired by Jean Bertrand de Masgontier. The building's history was marked by an extension in 1708, when Masgontier bought a small nearby house to expand the property. Despite this architectural union, the two houses remained distinct, as evidenced by a 1753 text describing a "great" and a "small house". The Napoleonic cadastre confirms this separation into two plots.

In the 19th century, the whole underwent major transformations, changing its original appearance. At the beginning of the 20th century, the hotel belonged to an antique shop named M. Texier, which installed a gate from the Hotel de Noailles, acquired from the collector Beaufeu. This grill now adorns the entrance to the garden. The street façade, the only protected element, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 23 July 1937.

The Hotel de La Feuillade illustrates the architectural and social evolution of private hotels in Île-de-France, passing from the hands of the aristocracy (marquis de La Feuillade) to bourgeois or merchant owners (antiquarians, collectors). Its history also reflects the practices of reusing decorative elements, common among art lovers of the 19th and 20th centuries.
