Origin and history
The Hotel de la Gorce, located in Bagnols-sur-Cèze in the Gard, is a remarkable example of 18th century civil architecture. This monument is characterized by a courtyard decorated with two superimposed galleries, supported by arches in basket handle. The cutting stone balusters and the first floor coffered ceilings, partially crawling under a staircase, bear witness to exceptional craftsmanship. The armored slab integrated with the masonry under the gallery adds a historical and noble dimension to the whole.
The protection of the building specifically covers the staircase and the two galleries, including their ceilings, balustrades and a ground floor door. These elements were inscribed by ministerial decree on 6 December 1949, highlighting their heritage value. The staircase, framed by an architectural core and a column, highlights the symmetry and balance of the places, typical of the private hotels of this time.
The location of the Hôtel de la Gorce at 3 rue Fernand-Crémieux is documented in the Mérimée base, although GPS coordinates suggest an approximate address at 10 rue Georges Besson. This disparity reflects the precision challenges often encountered in the heritage inventory. The monument, although protected, does not have up-to-date information on its accessibility to the public or its contemporary uses (visits, events, accommodation).
