Origin and history

Hotel de la Pouge is a private hotel located in the Dorat, Haute-Vienne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Built in 1654 on the site of masures, it was commanded by Joseph Philippes de la Rivallerie, criminal lieutenant of the Sénéchalite. This monument illustrates the civil architecture of the first half of the 17th century, with characteristic elements such as a brick slat and a carved gate.

In 1699, Jean Philippes, the nephew of Joseph and canon, undertook major changes in the house. The building was partially listed as a historical monument on 18 September 1992, especially for its facades, roofs, gate and scauguette. A historical confusion has long associated this place with Claude de La Pouge, murdered in 1578, but his real house is located at number 4 on Rue Saint-Michel.

Architecturally, the hotel is distinguished by its rectangular plan, its bellows covered with coating, and a turret with a polygonal bulb roof. Inside, a wooden staircase with carved balusters bears witness to the care given to its construction. The western gate, decorated with ionic pilasters and firepots, reflects the classical influence of the time.
